The Brass Bow is please to announce the addition of the finest state of the art cleaning system ever provided in any professional musical nstrument repair shop. Since 1997 our we have used this new process which we call Ultraclean™.  Using a custom designed ultrasonic cleaning machine made specifically for the cleaning of musical instruments. Everything from the dimension of the tank, the controls, and even the cleaning solution has been chosen to give the most complete interior cleaning ever done on a musical instrument.

The old method of chemically cleaning of instrument sometimes also referred to as acid cleaning, required the use of sometimes very strong acids or long soaking times to clean out the organic matter that accumulates inside of all instruments from use. Up to now this was the best method to clean any instrument, but it did not clean the interior entirely. A dirty instrument negatively affects the response and well and the slide and valve action.  

Our Ultraclean TM system uses sound waves instead of harsh chemicals to clean your instrument thoroughly.  In our Ultraclean TM tank which is large enough to clean even a 6/4 tuba, a series of transducers mounted in the bottom of the tank introduce the sound waves into the cleaning liquid. These soundwaves produce thousands of alternating high and low pressure waves per second. As these pass through the waterbased cleaning solution, millions of microscopic bubbles form which produce a scrubbing action proven to be a more effective degreaser than mechanical or chemical means combined. Cleaning instruments with ultrasonics has the distinct advantage of penetrating complex geometry and removing tightly bonded contaminants from a variety of surfaces even in the smallest space of a musical instrument. It will also clean areas unreachable by brush or mechanical means.

Note: In addition to our special cleaning process, all corks, felts and springs will be replaced with original manufacturer parts specified for each instrument. Silver plated, Satin Silver, and Brushed Gold instruments with be cleaned and polished with a special foam cleaner and tarnish preventitive. Raw brass instruments will be cleaned and brightened with two brass cleaners and tarnish inhibitor.

On trumpets first and third slides will be aligned and slide bumper for third slide will be installed. All rotor instruments will include special rotor bumper materials to adjust and quiet rotor action. Trombone slide work includes our Ultraclean TM process with replacement of slide bumpers and rubber tip replacement as needed
